About us
As part of the Faculty of Economics and Management, the department concerns itself with health care systems, economic questions, political measures and agents, as well as health care technologies. Prof. Dr. med. Reinhard Busse MPH serves as head of the department. The department has a strong interdisciplinary and international focus. Its research and teaching touch on social studies, economics, medicine, and engineering and it currently employs 16 research assistants of various interdisciplinary fields. The department has strong relations with international organizations, universities, and industrial partners throughout Europe and beyond. The range of taught subjects includes courses for the main study period of economics and engineering, as well as the new field of study "health care technology" for the master's degree program in economics and engineering. Additionally, since 2009, the department also provides a blended-learning-course in the area of "Health Technology Assessment" (HTA). In 2005, the department was named the "Collaborating Centre for Health Systems Research and Management" by the World Health Organizaiton (WHO). As a result, the department is integrated in the WHO's global network and it supports the WHO in its international efforts through scientific work.
