European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies

The European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies supports and promotes evidence-based health policy-making through comprehensive and rigorous analysis of the dynamics of health care systems in Europe. The Observatory is a partnership between the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe, the governments of Belgium, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden, the Veneto Region of Italy, the European Commission, the European Investment Bank, the World Bank, UNCAM (French National Union of Health Insurance Funds), the London School of Economics and Political Science, and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
For more information, please visit www.euro.who.int/observatory.

The Berlin University of Technology’s Department of Health Care Management is one of the Observatory’s four research hubs. The other three hubs include the London School of Economics, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and Emory University in Atlanta, USA. As a research hub, the Department of Health Care Management is responsible for drafting health system reviews (see “HiTs” for more details), as well as authoring and co-authoring a range of studies on the latest developments in international health care. The staff of the Berlin hub participate in regular policy dialogues and have presented their work at numerous international conferences and seminars. Professor Reinhard Busse is head of the Berlin hub and also director of the Observatory’s Summer School in Venice.
